Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Treatment in Richmond
Pelvic floor dysfunction is a muscular condition that can produce a wide range of distressing symptoms, from leakage and urgency to a constant ache deep in the pelvis. Because the muscles involved are hidden, many women assume nothing can be done. In reality, the pelvic floor responds extremely well to targeted, expert rehabilitation.
At Richmond Physiotherapy, our women’s health specialist assesses these muscles directly and builds a plan to restore their strength, coordination and relaxation.
What Is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction?
The pelvic floor is a sling of muscles that supports the bladder, bowel and uterus and helps control continence. When these muscles become too weak, too tight, or poorly coordinated, the result is pelvic floor dysfunction. Symptoms commonly include urinary leakage, a frequent or sudden need to pass urine, and pain felt within the pelvis.
The condition affects women at every life stage, and it is rarely something that simply resolves on its own without the right guidance.
How We Assess and Treat It
A women’s health physiotherapist is able to examine the pelvic floor both externally and internally, which gives a far clearer picture than guesswork alone. From there, treatment is tailored to whatever the assessment reveals.
- Pelvic floor muscle training: to retrain strength, endurance and the ability to fully relax.
- Manual therapy: hands-on techniques to release tension and improve function.
- Education and lifestyle guidance so you can keep managing symptoms confidently at home.
