Golf TPI Movement Screening in Richmond
If your swing has plateaued, you are losing distance, or you keep picking up the same niggles on the course, the limitation is often your body rather than your technique. A Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) movement screen is a physical assessment that looks at how well your body actually moves, then uses those findings to make your golf training specific to you.
At Richmond Physiotherapy, golf screening assessments are carried out by chartered physiotherapist Dave Burnett, a TPI certified practitioner. With several well known golf clubs close by, it is a service we are well placed to offer to players across Richmond, Teddington and the surrounding area.
What is a TPI Movement Screen?
The Titleist Performance Institute has assessed thousands of golfers, from tour professionals to weekend amateurs, to understand how the body influences the golf swing. The screen draws on that work. It is a structured series of movement tests that examines how your joints and muscles perform under the demands of a swing, so that any physical restrictions can be identified and addressed.
Rather than changing your technique on the range, the screen looks one level deeper at whether your body is physically able to produce the movement your swing requires in the first place.
What the Assessment Looks at
- Pinpoint the physical movement restrictions that may be holding your swing back
- Assess your flexibility, strength, balance and stability
- Identify specific areas of muscle weakness that relate to your swing
- Build a clear picture of how your body moves so that any training can be tailored to you
Why Your Body Shapes Your Swing
- Restricted movement in the hips, shoulders or spine limits the speed you can generate. Better mobility is what allows you to unlock power.
- Strength, especially through the legs and trunk, is essential for producing that power and controlling it.
- Many recreational golfers lose distance because of these physical limitations, not because of the club in their hands.
- Pain on the course is frequently a sign that one area is being overloaded during the swing, whether through poor mobility, weakness, limited stability, or a mix of all three.
Who is Golf Screening for?
- Struggling with back pain or other recurring aches when you play
- Losing distance and unsure why
- Finding that swing changes from lessons are not sticking
- Keen to train more effectively and get more from your time at the gym or on the range
