De Quervain's Tenosynovitis Treatment in Richmond
De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis Treatment in Richmond Painful thumb and wrist tendons can make simple tasks like opening a jar or lifting your baby surprisingly difficult. De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is a common overuse condition, and it often flares during pregnancy and early motherhood.
Our women’s health specialist treats it directly to settle the pain and restore comfortable movement.
What Is De Quervain's Tenosynovitis?
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis is a condition in which the tendon sheath at the base of the thumb becomes swollen, creating painful compression on the tendon inside. It is a common overuse problem that can make everyday tasks such as opening jars and holding a baby very difficult.
In pregnant women, increased water weight can add further pressure to the tendon, which is why the condition so often appears during and after pregnancy.
How We Treat It
Treatment focuses on reducing pain and swelling while improving how the thumb moves and loads.
- Bracing to rest and support the irritated tendon.
- Cryotherapy and elevation to settle swelling.
- Exercises, mobilisations and manual therapy to restore comfortable thumb function.
